Taekwondo Central Sparring Team wins 8 Gold, 4 Silver from 11 competitors at WA State Championships

Above - Zoe Brown shows her 2 trophies for 1st place

Taekwondo Centrals assualt on the WA State Taekwondo Championships was a great success for the sparring team winning 8 Gold, 4 Silver with Zoe Brown leading the way taking out 2 Gold in Black belt & Red belt divisions in her weight group

The sparring team success is a great reward for the many putting in the hours of training and the hard work of Melissa Warren, Jasmine Klumpp & Jake Klumpp. with a special mention to Jake Klumpp using his experience to coach with Justin for the great result

Most memorable moments for the team were Zoe Brown winning Double gold,  including winning the Blackbelt division (Zoe is still a Red Belt) and Liam Heidt &  Jayme-Lee Smith who dropped their opponents with well timed kicks to the head guard, both went on to raise the gold tally, Connor Peterson for a great silver medal who as a red 1 stripe beat a blackbelt and placed 2nd in the blackbelt division and Chris Guy who fought an under 18 competitor (though Chris is only 13) through agreeing to a catch weight due to both competitors not having a division, put in one of the most gutsiest efforts seen in a long time. Well done team

Jake Klumpp (17) put in a great performance to defeat a tough Vietnam fighter and
was unlucky to not have a head kick scored for him which ended the difference
in the semifinal. Jake w

on a great Bronze in what looks to be a great future for him.
Jake is the current Australian Champion for his division

Our youngest member of the team was Jayme-Lee Smith (13) who competed in the
under 18s after getting a walk through with Vietnam in the first competition,
Jayme-Lee thumped Malaysia then was undone by a very strong Vietnam fighter

to earn herself the Silver in her first International Competition. Jayme-Lee is

Jasmine Wins Oceania Olympic Qualifying Tournament – Preliminary Event

Jasmine Klumpp has continued her winning ways with an impressive victory at the Oceania Olympic Qualifying Tournament recently held in Melbourne

With a 12 – 0 win and 1st round stoppage in the first competition, followed by an 18 – 4, 3rd round stoppage in the following competition
In Jasmines third and final competition, her opponent pulled out, leaving her with the first place and qualifying her through to the Olympic Qualifying Tournament Australian Team Selections held in Perth during August.

Should Jasmine win, she will then get the opportunity to qualify Australia and possibly herself in the womens under 57kg blackbelt division. Its a tough ask but her last couple of competitions prove her quick rate of improvement
and scored 30 points with only 4 against her at this level is always promising. She is definately among the top breakaway group all contesting a possible chance to represent Australia at such a prestigious event

Justin Warren Named on “Wall Of Champions” for Taekwondo Achievements

Taekwondo Central Head Instructor, Mr Justin Warren was recently named on the
“Wall of Champions” for Collie where he grew up for his Taekwondo Achievements.

In a ceremony that was held at Roche Park, Justin was one of the recipients for a
variety of awards including Sports Person Of The Year awards.

Due to engine failure on the way to the award, Justin was stuck on the road while the award
was handed out which was accepted by his father, Robert Warren.

“I would like to give a heartfelt big thankyou to the people of Collie for allowing me this
huge honour, especially considering the high caliber of athletes that come from the mining town
including Olympians.”
“I was totally devestated to not be present to accept the award and I would
really like to thank Community Radio Announcer for nominating me. It ranks as one of my most
prized achievements to date.”

Our Club Champion Becomes Our 200th State Champion since 1999

Dalyellup Taekwondo Central’s Ross Delport took the club honour and the $100 prize for winning the achievement for himself and Taekwondo Central.

Ross was part of a team that returned with 14 gold from the competition. Ross was certainly the leader winning every event possible at the Titles. After receiving gold in the Creative Poomsae Competition, Ross the backed it up with winning the Traditional Poomsae and finalized up with some impressive sparring which saw him dominate every competition in his Black belt Division.

“Ross wasn’t named our club champion for nothing” said Taekwondo Central Head Instructor Justin Warren. “He is a consistent top performer at every competition he enters, from local to international”

It’s great to see one of the clubs all time best pass through this club milestone. He’ll be a name to remember for the future.

Current Taekwondo Central Club Champion took out 3 State Titles to become the club 200th. (Our total now is 201)
