9 NEW Black Belts For Taekwondo Central – Well Done Team!! (More grading photos added daily – check them out)

Taekwondo Central New Black Belts Dec 2016

L to R.      Brooklyn Jauncey, Tahlia Gowland, Max Avins, Declan Higgins, Madison Booth, Justin Warren, Brent Tankink, David Brown, Deacon Malatesta, Ajana Plunkett & Mollie Swarbrick

Its Our Greatest number passing black belt to date. The State Ohdokwan Black Belt Grading was held on the 4th November 2016 in Gosnells in which all our members did us proud amongst 80 attaempting the grading

David Browne lead the charge passing his 2nd Dan Black Belt, David has put in a very solid year seamingly inspired by his 1st Dan achievement 12 months ago. Working through Taekwondo Centrals Black Belt Sub Grading Syllabus through 2016 put him in a good spot to step up and take on the challenge. Another challenge conquered Dave.

Our 8 other members all passed their 1st Dan Black Belt (Poom – Junior Grade)

Deacon Malatesta
Mollie Swarbrick
Madison Booth
Brent Tankink
Tahlia Gowland
Max Avins
Brooklyn Jauncey
Declan Higgins

I am not just proud of their grading and all of them putting themselves up to be tested, but Im also really proud of the way they conducted themselves representing our club
There was nerves, anxiety, buttterflies and tears, and that was just the parents. the team held it together really well at the pre grading stage, with all excited but controlled with the odd nerves creeping in but it was all business on the grading floor. They all new what to do. Great job everybody and welcome to black belt and the advanced stages of learning. Myself, Ajana & John are all so very proud instructors right now. Our club totalled 13 Black Belt gradings in 2016

It was also a milestone for our own Head Instructor Ajana Plunkett, now being 4th Dan Black belt gives her access and the privilidge to now sit at the Ohdokwan Grading Panel meaning that Ajanas decision influences passing black belt. It is a milestone that most never see in Taekwondo. and it was another proud moment for me looking across and seeing her marking her share of the 80 participants attempting a black belt level.
On another note I have a huge thank you to Head Instructor Ajana Plunkett and Senior Instructor John Crawford who both played a huge part in helping all members pass especially towards he final weeks where it really counts.

Today was a huge goal achieved for me also. Our club has grown from strength to strength since we changed venues in 2014 due to a chain of life changing events and stupid decisions. It was a huge learning curve.
I was turning into someone I didnt like. Something had to change. So I come home and started to write a letter that Taekwondo Central is no longer and would finish for good. A paragraph in I paused and looked up.
There it was! My life philosophy at the top of my school classroom sized whiteboard in my study.

ITS A DISGRACE TO GROW OLD WITHOUT REALISING WHAT YOUR CAPABLE

It ignited me again. Putting my hand up as a leader is a task many wont do, it draws its fair share of criticism and is not easy but its not just my passion. its more. Its my purpose. we now have 9 new members grading for black belt. Today I realised thats what all my students are doing, theyre testing themselves, I am, Ajana and John are. All of us are pursuing Progress Over Perfection.
We are all finding what were capable and were loving it!
Earning your black belt is an amazing self journey, I saw 7 of my past Little Dragons grade for Black belt today (Thats incredible!!), I saw 9 have to conquer nervousness, uncertainty, anxiety, temporary memory lapse, tears, heavy limbs, and the voice inside saying “What on earth am I doing here?” but this feeling is what its about. this is the part of life that makes you feel alive. Its the Pre-Success feeling.

At the end of the day I saw 9 people over the top with happiness, energy, pride, fulfillment, joy tears, hugs, high fives, photos, over 20 proud family members, and the self satisfaction that a disciplined goal has been achieved, a goal that has made them all stronger on many levels they havent even realised yet. A goal that has made them step up and say

“WHAT AM I CAPABLE?”

If your reading this? Arent you just a little curious? Cmon and have a go. A Black belt with us will be a cherished memory for life, an accolade that can never be taken, and is great experience to share with a friend or family member.

Who Knows How To Escape? Our Seminars That Educate. Check Out The Photos

How To Escape - Our Team“How To Escape” was the theme of our second seminar and like our first Seminar the response has been huge.

Thank you to the many sms and email messages. Its really encouraging to see the positive feedback. My goal is to deliver them a positive teaching environment to learn about a not so positive and sometimes scary subject.
I think you like me can agree that kids personal safety and kids martial arts are related but also different.

Kids martial arts are teaching how to use physical moves combined with strategical thinking to overcome an enemy or opponent (In the case of sport). It takes years and thousands of repititions to develop these skills to an instinctive level
Our kids personal safety is based on defence being a predator and it doesnt always mean stand up and “biff” it out with an attacker. We have many defences from posturing to loud talking, in the end no confrontation is he goal for a child.
Escape is what its about and our seminars cover this side.

Taekwondo Centrals Paragon Program Has 12 new members bringing the total to 30 members over the 2 nights it runs

With very noticible results from the Friday Paragon Program, when time to renew, all 18 kept their spot.
To give others who missed the chance to enrol, we started a second opportunity on Sunday.

The better student to Instructor ratio combined with a guarantee of limited numbers in classes is what some prefer so Im real happy we can expand the service to those who want it.

Thank you to all who have signed up, Its been great fun so far and I hope your enjoying the different training drills and new learned skills.

16 Next Generation Black Belts Prepare To Grade

Taekwondo Central Members Prepare For The 2016 December Black Belt Grading

Front – (L-R) Deacon, Tyler, Matt
Middle – (L-R) Mollie, Madison, Ashlee, Brent, Mia, Tahlia
Back – (L-R) Max, David, Declan

Absent – Brooklyn Jauncey, Peter Shepardson, Isobella Desot and Liam Delany

” The thousand mile journey begins with just one step” For most of the above that first step was taken 4 tears ago when they turned up with their parents to start Taekwondo or for over half of them Little Dragons.

With the test 5 weeks away, everyone is buckling down and focusing on fine tuning their skills, lifting fitness and going through the motions on what they will need to do grading day. Failling to prepare is preparing to fail so students are taking advantages of stay back practise after class and using up the time dedicated to the Black Belt Master Class on friday nights. “Ive been very happy with the level, especially with a good 5 weeks left.”

David Browne will be our only Adult for this grading though we have a handfull on the horizon approach the initial goal belt level. David has extended his training through the Black Belt Sub Grading Syllabus and is now lining upm for a 2nd Dan Black Belt jumping ahead of the other 1st Dan Black Belts through discipline and dedication to training. David will be the only current Taekwondo Central Black Belt attempting to gain a Dan Level and the 4th this year after all 3 current instructor graded earlier during the year. Its going to be great to see an active training adult second dan in the club again. Best of luck Dave.

Max, Declan, Molly, Madison, Ashlee, Brent, Mia, Tahlia, Deacon, Tyler & Matt are all currently cho dan bo (probationary black belt) so this will be there first time in front of the Ohdokwan Grading Panel so it can quite nerve racking but with the focus on progression not perfection the improvement in level is really showing through.

Tahlia has also been training as part of the Paragon Program for the last and this term. The improvement has been very noticable, her dedication is shining through, big improvements in sparring, kick speed and power plus greater determination is what Im seeing from Tahlia and its been fantastic. She wants this black belt. It can be seen when she trains

Madison & Molly have made huge improvements in the last months. The 2 have teamed up as training partners and are now pushing each other towards an even higher level. It shows the value of a focused mind with a focused training partner

When Madison kicks the target, the thump echoes through the hall, she has amoung one of the strongest kicks I have seen from a female her age, Im just so happy she is responsible with her skills, I dont think she realises how much damage she could do to a person if she wishes to. she is very quiet and humble but has these incredible kicks and great flexility, Madison has made the biggest physical ability improvement this year.

Molly has made the biggest skill improvement I have seen in the club, another quiet achiever, shes very dedicated training 3 times a week to prepare with Madison, Molly’s small stature is very decieving, she is fast and has lightning kicks. When molly smashes targets it can be heard down the corridor. Molly and Madison both come up through the Little Dragons program and now will be able to share the great experience of achieving their Black Belts as training partners & friends.

Tyler & Matt have also been training partners, teaming up in the the Junior Taekwondo, the two have always been testing and honing their skills on each other. It helps keep them both motivated and now they are working towards the Black Belt goal. Tyler has this ability to make training fun, just talking to him makes you smile, he has this presence about him, Matt already has a Black Belt in the family through his older brother Jack Bowkley, this has further inspired Matt to earn his own. Mat and Tyler are both putting in the hours and helping eacher other to their goal level. Its a great experience to have with someone who has done the journey alongside you.

Declan has been pulled in as a helper to the teaching instructors many times, Declan is dedicated to the growth of the club and also the refinement of his own level, he strikes like an adult but is very controlled, reserved though very patient, great ingredients for a club leader.

Max was the smart one who started turning up early to the back belt master class to prepare for his grading while many were still working out if they were grading this year. The extra prep shows. Max is showing the deepest understanding of the grading and has retained the most to date. Max showed me from earlier in the year that he was serious. Max has always had a good understanding of Taekwondo and it will be great to see him awarded with this level

We were very lucky to gain Brent, He joined us when his family moved here after already having a significant martial arts background, Brent started a few levels in due to his prior knowledge and he blended in perfectly. Brent has a very strong traditional martial arts background that will serve him well in this traditional Taekwondo grading but his skill doesnt limit him to tradition, very competitve in sparring with great movement and counters, Brent has developed great skill. Brent also currently trains with the Paragon Program and has been great to have on board.

Deacons story is pure inspiration. Deacon joined us as a young child in the Little Dragons Program after beating an illness that in most cases is terminal, defying the odds, he has not only beaten the condition, he has set himself some great life goals with black belt being one of them. Deacon has taken his Taekwondo seriously and it shows in his skill, I have watched Deacon grow as a person and its been great to be able to call him one of my students. Im very proud of him and his skill level.

Ashlee joined us from another Taekwondo club, at first Ashlee had trouble with the transition, about 2 months ago was when it hit me how much she had improved, with good flexibility and the development of her technique and strength. Ashlees co-ordination has made huge improvements also with patterns flowing more freely and target kicking stronger and accurate. What I love about Ashlee is she has never given up, she has pushed forward and kept trying and now succeeded through to a high level. I have seen many who were in Ashlees position when starting training with us drop out. though Ashlee had an adjustment in style to make, she has progressed into someone I am really looking forward to seeing achieve her black belt.

One thing about grading for black belt, it can get overwhelming. The nervous anxiety a student has to deal with can be too much for some. The training can also be hard. Its not the beginning anymore when your excited about learning something new. its the busines end and some 90% of people who start Taekwondo never reach this point and the Cho Dan Bo belt is one of those levels that students tend to stop at. I have had 3 students at cho dan bo drop off in the last year and I thought Mia was the 4th.

After an absence, I was very happy to see Mia return to train for the black belt, Mia has teamed up with Tahlia and the 2 are working on the belt. Mia has been one of the great personalities down the club for many years. making her way up to Cho Dan Bo she has put herself in the position to prepare for her grading. I would love to see Mia get her black belt. she has spent many hours building her skill and to fall short one belt would be frustrating in the future when looking back. One level. Mia’s focus and dedication is building. Shes improving very quickly and getting her level up to complete the black belt journey, me for one, thinks she totally deserves the belt.

Best of luck to all of you, its a great achievement you all deserve and though we havent passed yet, you have put in the hours and training to pass this now. its just going the process of going through with it.

Some 75 children have earned their badge to date and have learned through example how to apply patience,
the remaining 40 or so will most probably earn theirs in the next couple of weeks.

Mums, Daughters & Sisters Take Up The Black Belt Challenge

Jo Jauncey, Melanie Buhlmann, Brittany Jongeling, Elissa Jongeling, Racheal & Trinity Best All Pass

One of the great things about Taekwondo is its for everyone. Women and girls have always played a strong part in the population of classes and more so with families enjoying the freedom of movement and health benefits our style of martial arts gives you.

A great example is the ladies and teens above, all have other family members involved they share the goal of black belt with, more importantly all maintain a strong focus and it shows in the power of their strikes. The other great news is they have all passed their belt grading for term four

Jo Jauncey made the deal with her youngest daughter Lilly she would start Taekwondo when Lilly was old enough to promote from Little Dragons to Taekwondo, but both have followed the lead of oldest daughter Brooklyn Jauncey who will be grading for her blackbelt in early December. Jo has been somewhat a spy, who would of thought watching Brooklyn for so many years would produce such great ability. closet training? who knows but its worked. Jo & Lilly both passed their yellow belt side by side. it was a great moment.

Mel Buhlmann took up Taekwondo after daughter Rebecca stormed through the Little Dragons syllabus and started the Family Taekwondo class at Australind, soon younger brother started the Little Dragonflies and both Mel joined up with husband Garry and are both climbing up the belt ranks as a family. Mel adapts to the technical side like no-one else, her natural flexability mean she can face kick in a blink, and its a kick that willl finish the situation, Training with partner Garry has certainly added to her toughness, though she has a kind and friendly presence

Brittany Jongeling started when her father brought her and 2 of her sisters to classes to try a self defence school, Patrick, Brittany, Rhianon and Elissa all started together and have now split into two groups with Brittany & Elissa opting to train 2 x per week, and father Pat & Rhianon training on a more part time basis of once per week due to other commitments.

Brittany has turned herself into a very strong martial artist having powerful strikes and a quick adaptability to the techniques, its easy to see that Brittany enjoys training and the results can be heard from the other end of the room, her kicks generate a thump that sends a warning that they will crunch ribs or a leg

Elissa Jongeling has also adapted with ease to the style. having sister Brittany as her training partner, the 2 have pushed each other along to a high level. Dont let Elissa’s small frame deceive you, this girl packs a whollop and displays dangerous speed and goodnight strikes, shes motivated and it shows

Racheal Atkinson started after both her sons started getting involved in the Little Dragons Program, after a small amount of time as a spectator, Racheal decided to step up to her own personal goal. with time only allowing training once a week, Racheal has been climbing the belts in her own pace and now over half way to black belt, her level is starting to really push through and we are starting to get an idea of what she is capable of and its been impressive so far. Racheals son Sam is featured in the story on The Little Dragons Patience Badges

Trinity Best trained with us when she was very young, and has now come back in to further her journey with us and were very happy she has. Trinity has a younger sister who trains in the Australind Little Dragons who also shows great ability. Trinity had a very strong traditional style of Taekwondo so we just had to change her to a more flexible style, but she basically did it herself by adapting and now shows some great techniques and well controlled punches and kicks with great usable power. Trinity wouldnt sting you like many her age would, Trinity’s strikes hurt and hurt bad and we cant wait to see her ability at black belt. very promising.
