Ronan Main (13) Earns His 1st Dan Black Belt In Taekwondo

Ronan Main Stretches After Training

Ronan Main is our latest student to become a Black Belt.
The Dalyellup Student started training with Taekwondo Central as a junior
Training for a period under Black Belt Instructor Simon Pierce, and then joining the Bunbury Junior Taekwondo.

Ronan was asked to move up to the adults class early as he was very strong for his size and age and sparred aggressive, I was concerned about him accidentally hurting one of the others so he joined the Bunbury Adults Taekwondo where he now trains twice weekly.

Im very proud of Ronan, he has learned greater control and always puts in a strong effort at training.
His skills show it. He has very fast & powerful kicks & strikes

Ronan passed his 1st Dan Black belt under the Taekwondo Ohdokwan system under Grandmaster Ross Hartnett (8th Dan) & Grandmaster Carmela Hartnett (8th Dan) Ronan will be eligible to grade for his 2nd Dan Black Belt in December this year.

Abby Turner, Summer Marrapodi & Eric Buhlmann, proudly show the Yellow Dragonfly Belt they earned

The Little Dragonflies program run by Taekwondo Central is a great way to teach 3 + 4 year old kids confidence, focus & manners all within a basic self-defence and awareness program. For 21 little champions it was all smiles and hugs when all of them passed their belts to move up the next level.

For Abby, Summer & Eric it was a great reward after a big term of trying their best. The 3 Little Dragonflies all come from the Australind program. The Dragonflies demonstrated all skills required at a high level “I originally only had the program in Bunbury, it was to separate the young Little Dragons from the older ones, a separate class was my only option” The program continually grew and demand come from other parents to start the classes in Australind & Eaton, every term its growing in popularity. From enquires it looks like Term 4 will again top that level” said Instructor Master Justin Warren

Little Dragonflies has some major differences to a martial arts class, it’s been fine tuned to help younger children. The syllabus, the teaching style, the delivery. Traditional forms are too ridged and wrestling skills defeat the purpose of escape, any sport martial art is also a waste of time all these focus on combat with limitations (rules). The fact is that a young child cannot fight an adult, there best chance is escape. Little Dragonflies is about personal safety and personal development, we also talk about respect for parents, understanding when they can use what we teach and of course having fun. They just love it!

Abbey, Summer & Eric will now focus on their next belt examination which will be in mid-December

Melissa Warren ready to grade for her 4th Dan Blackbelt

Melissa Warren has been enjoying martial arts since age 18 and now has moved up another Dan level in her quest for martial arts excellence

Recently passing her 4th Dan Blackbelt, Melissa loves the health & fitness Taekwondo give her. Her teaching at Taekwondo Central Bunbury,  is very dynamic and inspiring where she has spent many hours helping build confidence in her students and has a special knack for getting the best out of women. Though Melissa is small, she packs a hard kick and is strong, 20 years of pounding kick bags, punching and training has developed her strength and power.

Melissa Warren Achieves 4th Dan Black Belt & The Level Of Head Instructor. John Crawford & Amelia Dale Earn 2nd Dan Black Belt

John Crawford, Amelia Dale, Master Justin Warren, Melissa Warren & Kyrill Lloyd after the grading

(From L-R. John Crawford (16), Amelia Dale (14), Master Justin Warren, Melissa Warren (40) & Kyrill Lloyd (17) after the Black Belt Grading)

Melissa Warren (40) has become Taekwondo Centrals first 4th Dan Blackbelt after passing the high black belt grading under the watchfull eye of Grandmaster Ross Hartnett (8th Dan) and Master Carmela Hartnett (7th Dan)
Melissa was tested over a variety of areas including Traditional Poomsae (Patterns), Advanced Kicking Combinations, 1 Step Sparring, 2 Step Sparring, Self Defence, Knife Defence, Olympic Style Sparring, Kickboxing Style Sparring and finishing with pine board smashing using 4 different techniques. Melissa endured months of conditioning and training to prepare and has now earned the level of Head Instructor meaning she can now grade others their belt levels.

Taekwondo Central has had 5 members in the past make it to 3rd Dan, Melissa is the first to raise above this level and be prepared enough to make the grading

Also stepping up at the grading were Taekwondo Central Bunbury’s Junior Assistant Instructors Amelia Dale (14) and John Crawford (16) who have now both elevated to the level of 2nd Dan Blackbelt after they both passed the level required to pass this level. Amelia & John are both regular helpers in the Bunbury Taekwondo Central classes held at the South West Sports Centre and are a great contribution to the team

Kyrill Lloyd (17) is the next of our members to achieve the goal of blackbelt, Kyrill has been among the most disciplined at the club, taking every opportunity to fine tune his skills for the chance to be graded by a martial arts grandmaster
with a number of members lining up to achieve this level, Kyrills work ethic proves that goals can be achieved through consistancy, he deserves his blackbelt just on effort, though its not needed as he scored a pass and now holds a world recognised Taekwondo Black Belt.

Each member will have to wait the equivelent years as their dan level to grade the next level, Melissa Will get to attempt her 5th Dan in 2018, Amelia & John will grade 3rd Dan in 2016 and Kyrill can attempt 2nd Dan in 2015
