Class Skills Become Life Saving Skills That Helped 2 Little Dragons Escape from Abduction Attempts

Its a Parents worst nightmare but not for these 2 Little Champions. Who used the skills learned from  Taekwondo Centrals Little Dragons Anti-Bully & Anti Abduction classes. The moves and reactions learned could well have saved their lives, but the Abductors didnt expect  to face a Little Dragon. Read both Mothers frightening account of the event as it unfolded in 2008

Crispen’s Story

“However, the extent of learning and ownership of these skills was made most apparent when my 7 year-old found himself facing danger in a busy public carpark.”

A Mother’s tribute to the ‘Little Dragons’ programme from Taekwondo Central

The path to independence and self discovery can be so exciting and unpredictable. Yet too many children experience the impacts of an environment that is neglectful, unwelcoming or unsafe. Feelings of powerlessness, fear and disrespect have a huge impact upon the development of trust, self-esteem and the establishment of safe boundaries. Opportunities that address these realities are sadly lacking, particularly for our vulnerable young children. It is only when children feel safe in the relationships with important adults that they are able to experience a broader sense of safety in the world around them…

Both of my children experienced low self esteem through no fault of their own, and so I was pleased to enroll them in the popular and affordable ‘Little Dragons’ classes run by Justin Warren and his dedicated team of “Taekwondo Central”.

Justin is, in my opinion, a true ‘Master’ and champion, who possesses a humility and compassion that has earned him respect with young and old alike: Using role play, games, imagination and fun, balanced with an expectation of clear boundaries, discipline and respect, my children grew in their individual ways. Through his leadership my children, like so many others, developed the physical and mental skills and confidence to defend and assert themselves and to use their powerful skills appropriately.

“Shouting ‘GET BACK’, he jumped back, releasing himself from his surprised assailant’s grip. There is little doubt this learned behaviour had become automatic,

Such rewards are priceless in themselves. However, the extent of learning and ownership of these skills was made most apparent when my 7 year-old found himself facing danger in a busy public carpark. A man got out of a white ute next to the passenger side of dad’s car. He told my son to get in the car with him and took hold of his arm. Without any hesitation, my son applied his learned defensive skills. Shouting ‘GET BACK’, he jumped back, releasing himself from his surprised assailant’s grip. There is little doubt this learned behaviour had become automatic, and it saved my son from extreme threat. Furthermore, it helped his recovery because he had acted assertively, appropriately and successfully against an adult. His positive self-image was further reinforced. My son subsequently received invaluable additional support from Justin in the weeks following this incident, which served to further enhance his self-esteem and supported us in addressing his emotional recovery.

Thank you, Justin, for sharing your gifts with us. You are a true hero and a role model for us all. You have given my children a sense of ownership and belief in their own abilities through a programme which should be a compulsory part of Early Childhood Education.

Blake’s Story

“It was then I saw my son apply his self defence move, and yelled out “Get Back”. Exactly What he had been taught from Justins Little Dragons Class”

A Mother’s tribute to the ‘Little Dragons’ program

When I saw an add for Taekwondo Centrals Little Dragons – A self defence program for under 8’s. My husband and I enrolled our son aged 4 into the class. We had always worried about Stranger Danger, but it was always as if it never happened to us.

It wasn’t until this year when we had gone away on holidays, every parents worst nightmare had happened. We had stopped at a busy market place with our children. I had stopped to look at a store while I has a loose grip on my sons hand, when a lady walked past us and pushed him out of my reach, dragging my son by the arm, the woman made for a quick escape

“I strongly urge parents to enrol; their kids, it could save their lives.”

I was frantic and started pushing through the crowd yelling at her to stop. It was then I saw my son apply his self defence move, and yelled out “Get Back”. Exactly What he had been taught from Justins Little Dragons Class

I look at this as being one of the worst days of my life, yet I have the sense of relief knowing that if it hadn’t been for Justin’s Little Dragons class and his wonderful instructors teaching kids self defence – it could have turned out alot worse. My husband and I are extreamly greatful to them all.

I strongly urge parents to enrol; their kids, it could save their lives.

Lachlan Enright (12), Allan Lum (30) & Jack Bowkley (15) Are The Latest Addition To Our Black Belt Family

Black Belts. Lachlan Enright (12), Allan Lum (30), Master Justin Warren, Jack Bowkley (15)Our newest Black Belts to the Taekwondo Central Family have just passed their 1st Dan Blackbelt under the Taekwondo Ohdokwan System. With a judging panel Headed by Grandmaster Ross Hartnett (8th Dan), Grandmaster Carmela Hartnett (8th Dan) and Taekwondo Central Head Instructor, Master Justin Warren (5th Dan), Lachlan Enright, Allan Lum and Jack Bowkley had to show an arrange of skills including Traditional Poomsae (5 patterns in total), Kicking Combination Techniques, 1 & 2 punching defence (16 different defences) & self defence techniques. Sparring Olympic Style then Kickboxing Style and finishing with pine board smashing which all 3 of our members broke the boards easily.

Lachlan Enright has been the most dedicated and a great example of how quick your level can raise with correct focus, great job Lachy. Jack Bowkley has been a great example of not giving up and to keep persisting, it paid off. The hardest grading was done by Allan Lum. Being the only Red Belt in a sea of some approx 30 1st Dan Blackbelts, Allans skills were tested against blackbelt and he stepped up and put on a great grading receiving many comments on attitude and power.

Congratulations to all 3 of you, and welcome now to the Black Belt Master System where we will expand your knowledge and skills further.

Mother & Daughter (Maaike & Indi) Both Pass Black Belt Together

Maaike & Indi - Mother & Daughter Black Belts- www.tkdcentral.com

Maaike & Indi are the latest addition to the Taekwondo Central Black Belt family after the two passed their grading in front of the Taekwondo Ohdokwan Grading panel that included 8th Dan Grandmaster Ross Hartnett. 7th Dan Blackbelt Carmela Hartnett & 5th Dan Blackbelt Master Justin Warren & 4th Dan Blackbelt Mrs Melissa Warren

Maaike & Indi’s skills were tested through a series of sections that included Traditional Patterns (Poomae), Kicking Techniques, 1 Step Sparring, 2 Step Sparring, Self Defence, Olympic Style Sparring, Freestyle Sparring & Board Breaking.
It was a tough challenge that ended with Maaike & Indi both earning their 1st Dan Blackbelts. Maaike made the transition to Taekwondo after attending Taekwondo Centrals Counterstrike Womens Self Defence Course. Indi started as a Little Dragon and has worked her way through the whole Little Dragon, Super Dragons & Taekwondo System to earn their valued Black Belt both training under Master Justin Warren

“Both are well deserved black belts. their discipline, effort and attitude towards training are second to none. The 2 new blackbelt really represent the high standard we expect from our blackbelts and did themselves and us proud”, said Master Justin Warren. “They have both been a pleasure to instruct”

To earn your blackelt is a minimum 4 year commitment, its a big thing. however a Mother and Daughter doing the same grading & passing is amazing and will be a cherished memory for life.

Congratulations to you both

Bunbury, Eaton & Australind Super Dragons & Taekwondo Classes Sparring Week

Eaton Super Dragons Padded Up

Pictured Above – Eaton Super Dragons Kids Martial Arts Padded Up Ready To Rumble With Some Safety Sparring

It was Action Week at Taekwondo Central & a chance for all members to test their might in a safe controlled environment.

With full padded protection that included, Gloves, Mouth Guards, Head Guards & Chest Guards, all members armoured up and tried
their skills out under the watchfull eyes of the Black Belts & Leadership Team. Some really showed their potential with a great combination of attack & defence skills and most importantly the only injuries being the odd shin knock or an elbow spike on the ankle.

“Learning To Protect Yourself without a small element of contact is like learning to swim but not actually going in the water” it also gives our members an idea of what to expect if theyre hit and how it feels to deliver a good hit, which are both essential to proper self protection

Sparring will be part of our next action week which will be in March 2015. Students are now focusing on their belt examination that starts from the 15th December

Abby Turner, Summer Marrapodi & Eric Buhlmann, proudly show the Yellow Dragonfly Belt they earned

The Little Dragonflies program run by Taekwondo Central is a great way to teach 3 + 4 year old kids confidence, focus & manners all within a basic self-defence and awareness program. For 21 little champions it was all smiles and hugs when all of them passed their belts to move up the next level.

For Abby, Summer & Eric it was a great reward after a big term of trying their best. The 3 Little Dragonflies all come from the Australind program. The Dragonflies demonstrated all skills required at a high level “I originally only had the program in Bunbury, it was to separate the young Little Dragons from the older ones, a separate class was my only option” The program continually grew and demand come from other parents to start the classes in Australind & Eaton, every term its growing in popularity. From enquires it looks like Term 4 will again top that level” said Instructor Master Justin Warren

Little Dragonflies has some major differences to a martial arts class, it’s been fine tuned to help younger children. The syllabus, the teaching style, the delivery. Traditional forms are too ridged and wrestling skills defeat the purpose of escape, any sport martial art is also a waste of time all these focus on combat with limitations (rules). The fact is that a young child cannot fight an adult, there best chance is escape. Little Dragonflies is about personal safety and personal development, we also talk about respect for parents, understanding when they can use what we teach and of course having fun. They just love it!

Abbey, Summer & Eric will now focus on their next belt examination which will be in mid-December
